Shaw Cancer Center's sun safety educational program is offered to local elementary and preschool aged children during the month of May for Skin Cancer Prevention and Sun Safety Month.
Tuesdays and Thursdays in May are spent educating over 1200 four-to-seven year old students about the dangers of the sun, prevention of skin cancers and how to stay safe in the sun while playing outdoors. Our child friendly mascot, Blizzard, assists in our presentations demonstrating the importance of wearing clothing, hats and sunscreen and seeking shade. Each child leaves the presentation with a sun safety goody bag and EPA “SunWise” literature to share with their parents.
