The High Acuity Services Manager oversees all high acuity and crisis services across the Eagle County community, including 24/7 crisis co-mobile response, crisis, and community stabilization, critical incident, urgent acute care services, and intensive outpatient programs. This position is responsible for developing and implementing the community-wide 24/7 crisis and co-mobile response in a manner that aligns with specific regulatory and contractual requirements set forth by our Regional Accountable Entity and the Behavioral Health Authority. This position also maintains a select caseload of high-acuity patients, serves as the 2765 Clinical Team lead, and provides coverage as needed.
- Clinical Crisis Response: In collaboration with Behavioral Health leadership, this position is responsible for developing and implementing the community-wide 24/7 crisis and co-mobile response. Responsible for coordinating and responding to all acute crises and critical incidents across Eagle County. Ensures response, documentation, and data reporting align with regulations and standards, including those specific regulatory and contractual requirements set forth by our Regional Accountable Entity and the Behavioral Health Authority.
- Develops and implements policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure high-quality care and regulatory compliance across all acute Behavioral Health services.
- Ensures the integration of services across multiple departments, including emergency services, inpatient care, outpatient care, and community-based services. Fosters a collaborative, trauma-informed, and patient-centered environment within the department.
- Provides direct patient care. This includes but is not limited to supporting and providing coverage while also carrying a selective caseload of highly acute patients.
- Clinical Oversight: Oversees all Behavioral Health Acute Care staff and acts as clinical supervisor or consult as needed. This includes consultation on complex cases, supervising all high acuity services, and ensuring the clinical team’s adherence to evidence-based and patient centered care practices. Provides regular supervision to team members as needed.
- Clinical Operational Management: Oversees the day-to-day operations of crisis stabilization and acute services, ensuring timely access to care, appropriate interventions, and efficient case management. Coordinates staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Quality Improvement & Clinical Excellence: Ensures adherence to evidence-based practices, State Regulatory Training Requirements, and national standards for crisis care and acute psychiatric treatment. Drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery, reduce emergency room overcrowding, and minimize unnecessary hospital admissions. Conducts regular audits of care quality, documentation, and patient outcomes; takes corrective action when necessary. Provides leadership in developing and implementing patient safety protocols, risk management, and crisis intervention training.
- Collaboration & Community Partnerships: Builds and maintains strong working relationships with community partners, including Vail Health Hospital, law enforcement agencies, the school district, emergency medical services, and behavioral health partners. Advocates for integrating crisis stabilization and acute services into broader community mental health and public safety systems, including maintaining and expanding the protocol and service structure of the mobile co-response model. Represents the organization in community coalitions, task forces, and interagency meetings related to mental health crises and emergency services.
- Production: In collaboration with Behavioral Health leadership, evaluates production across the service line, ensures staff are working to maximize access to care and that services that are delivered are being documented in a manner that results in successful encounter capture.
- Clinical Risk Management: Identifies and mitigates risks related to patient safety, legal compliance, and professional liability across outpatient comprehensive behavioral health services. Develops policies and procedures to address risk factors and promote a safe environment for patients and staff. Reviews all Safety Event & Reports and Just Culture Investigations.
- Compliance: Responsible for ensuring Clinical and Administrative compliance across the behavioral health service line in alignment with legal, local, state, federal, and regulatory standards. This includes chart maintenance, consent maintenance, and taking the lead on all state, commercial payor, and third-party audits.
- Recruitment: Develops and implements strategies to recruit and retain the highest quality workforce across the behavioral health field. Fosters and maintains relationships with university and other state agencies to ensure recruitment of diverse staff. Provides infrastructure for new staff onboarding, including developing the clinical onboarding and training of all new behavioral health staff.
- Policy Development: Works closely with Behavioral Health leadership to ensure streamlined strategies and policies across the behavioral health system.
- Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
- Performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
- Five years of experience in behavioral health crisis services, including at least two years in a leadership or management role.
- Two years of medical behavioral health integrated and embedded experience strongly preferred.
- Specialized training or licensure in recovery and addiction services (LAC, CAC), required.
- Experience with crisis stabilization units, acute psychiatric or integrated care, or emergency behavioral health services, required.
- Experience with coordinating with law enforcement, paramedics, and emergency medical services, required.
- Eligible for Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party reimbursement, required.
- A behavioral health or clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LPC, PsyD, PhD) in the state of Colorado, required.
- Current, valid Colorado driver’s license, with ability to pass Vail Health’s Department of Motor Vehicle Report, required.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per year.
